A couple of years ago, I was casually tuning around the weather bands and heard weather from St. Louis and Kansas City from the d.c. area and managed to work stations in Arkansas, Missouri, and Kansas on 2-meter fm simplex using an Omni at 70 feet.  I also managed to work into Texas using the same mode. 73- pat kk3f
