Tom, have a look at the properties of the com port in the device manager.
Make sure it is indeed set to com 1 and there are no conflicts with other
ports. Verify it is working. Check the advanced properties and look for
anything that doesn't look right. I think the baud rate should be set to
9600, N, 8, 1 but you shouldn't have to set this because I think the Kenwood
software does this for you, But it's worth a try. Try different
handshaking. I would give you my settings but I haven't used the software
in a couple of years and don't even have it installed on this pc.
Also, try just reading from the radio, can you download the memory into the
program?
It sounds like you have everything set up right but serial communications
can be tricky and sometimes takes some tweaking.

Subject: question about writing TMV7A memories to radio
Hi, all.
Well, I'm making progress in terms of using the TMV7A memory programming
software, but I now have one problem that has got me puzzled.
I have pulled up the TMV7A V7 memory program, and opened my memory list into
the program.
However, whenever I try to write the data to the radio, I get a
"communication time-out error".
In fact, when I hit "yes" to write to the radio, the TMV7A actually seems to
start transmitting.
What am I doing wrong here?
Is there something I need to set in the radio so that it will accept my
memory data?
My XYL and I have looked through the TMV7A instruction manual, and can't
seem to find much helpful information.
Just for the record, I'm using the required PG4S interface cable. I have it
plugged into comport1 on my laptop, and the din connector on the other end
is plugged into the jack on the front lefthand corner of the radio, right
next to the tuning knob.
I'd appreciate any help anyone could give me here.
