Hi Chris,

Interesting what you are doing.  Can only address the TS-2000, but others 
may be similar.

As Colin said, the comp meter is for the processor.  Function key  followed 
by the processor key  is for setting processor input  with mic   level 
button and  multi channel knob till comp meter shows 10 db compression.

Same routine as above, but without  the function key, sets processor output. 
Turning knob until desired alc is reached.
