This guy in Florida is talking about 14.4 on sw and it is possible the
satellite is a bit pricey.  More later.

If so, then skype is an internet Pere 2 Pere telephony program that
allows
calls to be made between computers, between computers and regular
telephones/sellular phones and from regular phones to computers.
Currently, skype offers free calling to anywhere in north america to any
phone number from your computer.

And i think most of the satelite internet providers can offer minimum
56K if
not 128K.
It gets pricy at that rate, but it is availible.
Also, unless they are going to be embarking on major cross ocean
voyages,
they should be able to use a typical sell phone to dial into an ISP and
get
56K that way.
All the cruise ships offer internet onboard, and those come via
satelite, so
i am sure most private vessles can get the same services.
