*Confronting empire*

SOME 1,000 people came to Socialism 2007 in Chicago for a long June weekend
of political discussion, debate and entertainment--with the goal of
revitalizing the left and renewing the struggles against war and for social
justice. At a plenary session on "Confronting Empire," six activists from
around the world spoke out against the U.S. war machine. Here, we print
excerpts from that session.
