Pam, Linda, and Mary,
I have Hashimoto's. I did not take synthroid or any hormone. The Chinese
medicine doctor did not want me to take the hormone, but I think he would have
still worked with me if I did. I don't know exactly what was in the herbal
medicine, but I will try to get more specifics for you from my Chinese medicine
doctor. In the meantime, I can tell you that he started me on a powder which I
mixed with hot water. He said it was mostly Chinese ginseng but had about 14
other ingredients. This greatly increased my energy level, but also my blood
pressure, so he reduced my dosage of it. Then he switched me to a mixture of
American ginseng and other herbs. He said this one would be more helpful to all
of my allergies. It was, but it didn't give me as much energy as the Chinese
ginseng powder. All of these medicines he said he got in Taiwan. At the same
time I took little black pellets called "Six Herbal Tea" or something like that
which was made in China. The ingredients included some roots. I had never
heard of any of the ingredients. He said this product was used in general to
slow the aging process. It made me sleep through the night and made my mouth
and eyes less dry. (It may have done other things but I don't know what they
are). Last, he took me off these pellets but I am still taking the powder
containing American ginseng. I know that the acupuncture has been extremely
helpful to me, especially when he started treating me every 2 to 3 days. He
started doing this because he said the benefits of the acupuncture are highest
48 hr. after having it done. That way if he treated me about every 48 hr., I
was continually improving, rather than declining in between times. He did not
do acupuncture on the thyroid. He said you should never do it on the injured
area. He has been working on my "kidney-heart meridian" a lot because he says
there is a blockage.
I think a few things should be kept in mind about my case:
1) Once the endocrinologist tested my antibodies, the nurse said I had a mild
case of Hashimoto's.
2) I think my case was triggered by tremendous job stress, which I haven't had
for 3 months because I have a different job.
3) From what I understand I have an extremely talented Chinese medicine doctor.
I will let you know when I get further details on my herbal medicine. I am
continuing with the Chinese medicine because I and the Chinese medicine doctor
know I am not completely recovered. Good luck to you all, and let me know if I
can answer any other questions.
Wendy
