Hi,
Thought I'd mention a small bit about high-fiber diets that I found in
Diabetes Self Management, May/June, 1996:
"Eating plenty of fiber-rich foods in an easy way to help protect yourself
from colon cancer and heart disease. But if you take medicine for an
underactive thyroid, you may need to be careful. A study recently published
in "Journal of Clinical Endocrinolgy and Metabolism" found that for 12 out
of 13 people taking thyroid-replacement drugs, increasing dietary fiber
interfered with the action of the drug.
"This news doesn't mean you need to stop eating fiber if you take
thyroid-replacement drugs. But it does indicated that if you are
conscientiously increasing the amount of fruits, vegetables, beans, and
whole grains in your diet, it might pay to visit your doctor to see if your
dosage needs adjusting."
