Does anyone have any information on the effects of radioactive iodine on
the thyroid gland? I have read somewhere that it can actually destroy the
gland (what fun!), but I was wondering if this would occur only in large
dosages. I'm not interested in ingesting anything radioactive, but this
kind of iodine is used in thyroid scans for diagnostic purposes. I am
thinking of having another scan, and would like to have some input. On the
other hand, I also read that radioactive iodine can also stimulate a
sluggish thyroid to "get in gear." Dr. Rueda, I know you will have
something interesting to contribute, as usual. I also thank you for your
courage and your concern. Linda Ihde
