Hi -
We are thinking of trying the SCD (Specific Carbohydrate Diet) for
our celiac dx daughter whose acid reflux, nausea and headaches have
not resolved on a gluten-free diet and who seems to feel sick after
eating almost anything. We have been to many different doctors who
cannot find any cause for her symptoms.
I have "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" and a couple of SCD recipe
books. Would like to know your experiences and any hints you can
share to make the experience successful and easier.
Am particularly interested in your experience concerning how to
handle SCD approved foods that made you sick before trying the SCD
diet (other than the gluten foods). Did you still avoid them on the
SCD diet or were you able to eat them immediately or after a while?
Our child gets sick eating all goat and cow milk products (including
yoghurt and cheese), eggs, tomatoes (acid reflux), peppers. She does
not have an IgE allergy to any of these foods, but tested high on the
IgG test for egg whites and casein. All the MDs we have seen say
that the IgG tests are unreliable, but we believe that she feels sick
whenever she eats milk (gets migraines) or egg whites (abdominal
cramping).
Also, did you take enzymes and probiotics while on the SCD (if you
were taking them before) or did you discontinue them?
Thanks for any ideas, advice, or stories about your experiences.
