I researched the gluten free status on the Kohr Brothers website (the
ice cream found on many boardwalks and beach towns). To my surprise
there was a section, in parentheses, that said their products were GF!
I wrote an e-mail to them just to double check the status, and waited
for a reply. In the meantime, I told a friend of mine, and when she
checked the website, that parentheses section was missing. I just got
off the phone with a rep, and she said since receiving my e-mail, they
did some checking on their own and realized the flavoring in their dulce
de leche could come from barley. So, because of cross-contamination,
they are no longer saying that any of their flavors are GF.
They never e-mailed me a response. I usually check a website every few
months to update my records, but I guess I need to check more
frequently.
