Does anyone know how long after gluten exposure before neurological symptoms appear?
My son was exposed to Source Naturals' magnesium chelate (labeled gluten-free but actually contained wheat-- they finally put a sticker on the new bottles although labels still says GF-- the sorbitol was from wheat NOT corn). He had ingested the tablets of 2 bottles of 500 each over a period of several months. There were several ingredients and it was a very small amount in each bottle. Would that be enough to cause numbness in his leg- restricting movement-- similar to MS? or cause an MS or MS-type flare-up? He has never had any digestive symptoms. He had a positive steattorhea (fat in the stool) test and positive celiac panel in 2000 and is gluten-free otherwise. A few years ago he was diagnosed with MS and later CD. I have often wondered if MS has been misdiagnosed in many and is actually CD) -- the brain plaques (lesions) are identical. Although he hasn't had a flare-up for 3 years I wonder if this MS-type flare-up is actually the exposure to gluten. Perhaps neurons take longer to exhibit inflammation. Any thoughts, opinions or facts will be greatly appreciated. Anyone here also have MS in the family? Thank you in advance. R.N.
