I'm a little confused here, sorry. Just what exactly do you want to
know? From what I understand, a .brf is a Blazie note taker file. You
say she went to the file name box, then tabbed to see what folder her
file was going into. When a save dialog box comes up, the file to be
saved will be highlighted in the file name box. If you click on a file
in the folder then the file name will change to that file name. So if
she was saving file.txt and that file name was highlighted in the file
name box but then she tabbed or clicked on another file then that file
name - say file.brf - will appear in the file name box. Now, if she
didn't accidentally do this then the file she selected for download
would have to have been a .brf file. There is no option to stop the
highlighted file from changing. All you need do is once you select a
file for download, click once in the filename box. This will set the
name of the file to the one selected for download.

I hope this is what you meant.
