Yes hank, I have been doing it for over 55 years.  It has to be done 
completely by feel, the placement of the gun, or iron and the feel of the 
solder melting.  However in today's equipment it is very hard because people 
have to use microscopes so impossible by blind people but things such as 
cables are a snap. Ed K7UC
