Yep, the DM 57 i think it is, is a great addition to the radio especially
for FM 2M and 70CM work.
However, be fair warned, that the DM57 doesn't sound all that great on SSB.
In fact, now that i have switched to a studio mike, it doesn't sound that
great on FM either.
However, it still sounds better then your typical mobile or HT setup.
I believe there is a desk mike sold by kenwood that has the four function
buttons on it, but you are looking at some big dollars for that one.
It would be great if a person could buy, or build an interface that would
allow the use of mikes like the Heil's and other studio type mikes as well
as having a 4 button configuration for the voice and S meter readings.
Of course, a person can change the main FN button on the radio to read S
meter readings and then press the enter button twice to get freq read
out...but it is so much nicer with the function buttons.
I have considered perchasing one of the MFJ mike splitters that allow you to
easily switch between multiple microphones with out reconnecting them
individually...this way, you can quickly switch back to the hand mike and
have S meter and freq read outs on HF as wel as the other bands, and still
have the option to use a better sounding mike while talking.
