You are right Butch but still a handy trick.
I had a "portapack" for my Icom rig in those days, a mini Jell cell
about the size of the radio with a handle on top which worked quite
well. Low power would run for quite a long time and if fully charged 3
hours on High power with a 30% duty cycle.
Imagine the difficulties with TSA with a rig like that today.....!

Well, that assumes the synthesized rig is on frequency. I was lucky to
have one radio in those days. I now have an ifr service monitor which
makes things very nice indeed.
