Blood donation campaign in Kanilai
Written by Salifu M. Touray Jul 02, 2007 at 06:56 AM
A blood donation campaign recently kicked-off in Kanilai, the birth-place of President Yahya Jammeh.
The three-day blood donation campaign, organised by the Kansala Trust, a district based organisation comprising 42 villages in collaboration with the Department of State for Health, is the medical cultural part of the Kanilai International Festival.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Tamsir Mbowe, Secretary of State for Health and Social Welfare thanked President Jammeh for supporting the blood donation and all those who participated in the campaign designed to save lives.
SoS Mbowe further underscored the importance of the blood donation campaign noting that blood is very vital to life. He added that the choice of Kanilai as the venue for the campaign is quite fitting due to the fact that it is one of the historical medical towns in The Gambia that has been rendering services for generations and saving the lives of many Gambians.
He then revealed that the blood collected would be distributed to medical facilities countrywide.
Sheriff Abba Sanyang, the National Assembly Member for Foni Kansala said the objective of the campaign is to encourage the people in his district to help save lives.
He also thanked President Yahya Jammeh for his support and called on the people to donate blood within the three-day campaign.
