Thank you to everyone who responded. It seems that some can tolerate grain-based distilled vodka and some can't. I know that we cannot at all, as my stomach cramps, diarrhea, sinus congestion and headaches and my husband's flaring scalp condition, facial acne breakout and extreme fatigue were not all imaginary as we had thought! I emailed the company (no phone#) and have not heard back. Here we go:
I avoid grain alcohols simply because I've had some pretty bad experiences.
I do not react to alcohols from grain. I drink Scotch and Makers Mark with
no problem. I do not know about the flavored vodkas, you might want to write
the company.
If any alcohol starts for wheat, barley or rye - we absolutely
cannot have it. There only rare exceptions in that Distilled Vinegar is
processed differently and we can NOW have that - but 13 years ago it was
processed like much of the alcohol products are today and we could not have
it then. So, of course, you will react when drinking alcohol that starts
from a gluten based product.
Saw your post, and yes I react and have given up on sampling vodka, no matter who makes it
react to alcohols distilled from grain products. However, I realize that
this is an argument among Celiacs that will never be settled.
Dr. Green told me that all distilled alcohols are
okay, including all vodkas.
