John;
Their is a definite advantage when you have the face separated from the radio.
When you have the radio in an out of the way area, you don't hear the noise from the fan.

I'm going to be in the market for a new duel bander when I can afford it,
I've about wore out the TMG707A and though I hate having the face not
attached to the radio, that might be what I get too and just throw the RF
deck up on the top shelf. It seems like every time I start to make headway
with the bills something breaks over here and that 707A isn't far off I
don't think. Figure I do a ton of NTS stuff though daily, lot of QSO's, nets
to run and a lot of it needs high power so that radio doesn't owe me
anything for the last 5 years of heavy daily use. At least I have a backup
even if it is 2 meters only, for all the 440 I do I won't miss it if I have
to run that for a month or 2. I'll start saving a little money soon though
and work, I just scaled back from 2 computers in here to just the big one. I
have 2 keyboards on it now, 1 for each desk and that helped a lot. I liked
the 2 computers, but then some times I have a ton of nets to do, plus I go
to school online and it's nice to some times work on school stuff in a 10
minute gap between nets, it will be a lot easier to not have to swing the
chair around form desk to desk anymore. I've always wanted to do that but
never could make things work until now. Problem is, now this one has to stay
on 24/7 and with 7 fans to keep it cool, it can be a little noisy but if I
can sleep with the AC in the summer, I can sleep with this the rest of the
time. My packet program has a nice mailbox in it and people use it so I have
to keep the computer up for that.
