the ham stick idea is great for apartments.
especially if you are up a couple floors.
center the dipole in front of a window and off you go.
that is in horizontal configuration.
Not sure why you are interested in 10meters....its pretty dead right now.
A better one to start with would be 20M.
The problem with magnetic mount antennas is they need a ground plain under
them to work properly, and unless you plan on stringing 10 foot peaces of
wire in at least 3 directions out from the bottom of the antenna, they
aren't great for fixed non-mobile applications.
The pair of ham sticks with a dipole adapter is a pretty good way to get
started.
And, if you want, you can even buy coils for other bands and swap them out
when you feel like working another band.
