why the diamond antenna?
I am pretty sure that one needs radials. Other verticals don't such as
the Kushcraft.
Also the bandwidth on the low bands is pretty small - 10-15 kilohertz.
Have you also considered the detuning effect from the proximity of the
house?
They are tuned as quarter waves, but the those such as the R8 are half
waves which means that the integral radial are R F hot at the ends so
need to be out of reach - this range don't do the low bands however.
So that is my potted knowledge of commercial verticals from a R 8 user!
