                      ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP CONGRESS

                     SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2008

***************************************************

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Plan 2008 is coming to an end. Join us to celebrate our progress and address our future goals at the 9th Annual Diversity Forum:

Tuesday, September 23
8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Memorial Union

The theme this year is "Beyond Plans and Promises: Active Leadership for the Future" so come exercise your leadership and share your experience! Learn more about the 12,000 year history of indigenous peoples and nations in the Great Lakes through songs, music, table displays, videos and more. Dr. Eduardo Bonilla-Silva, Professor of Sociology at Duke University will speak on "Racism, Discrimination, Colorblindness, and the Diversity Puzzle at HWCUs." Other speakers and break-out sessions will include Provost Pat Farrell, Vice Provost for Diversity and Climate Damon A. Williams, Vice Provost for Faculty and Staff Programs Steve J. Stern, and Chancellor Biddy Martin.

This event is free. Everyone is invited to attend the whole event, or portions. Schedule and registration for a free lunch are available at: www.diversity.wisc.edu/forums.php . For interpreters, captioning, or disability-related accommodations, please contact Paula Gates at [log in to unmask] or 608-265-5228.

Faculty members are encouraged to allow students to attend the forum as a substitute for a regular class, whenever possible. Unit supervisors are encouraged to stagger attendance by staff to allow everyone to participate. Staff members may attend without loss of pay after receiving approval from their Supervisor.

Please forward this invitation to others in your units and departments.

Sincerely,

Damon A. Williams, PhD
Vice Provost & Chief Diversity Officer
