Latest Thrills in GFA 2nd Division League
As we enter week five of the GFA second division league, more actions and
thrills continue to be offered by the various teams competing for the
coveted title. At the Serekunda mini-stadium, Brikama United last Tuesday
inflicted a 1-nil defeat on Samger whilst Kaira Silo and Serekunda East
selection settled down to a goal-less draw. The Interior FC and Nema United
were singing from a different song-sheet when the former narrowly defeated
the latter one-nil.
Hamham United on Thursday rode over Jambajelly by defeating them one-goal to
nil at the Box Bar mini stadium in Brikama whilst Tallinding United and
Young Africans United's encounter at the Independence Stadium in Bakau could
not produce any winner.
Actions continue.
Scorpions New Coach in Town
Can He Reverse the Situation
The Gambia's senior squad would now be coached by a new man in their quest
for a championship title in the 2008 cup of nations qualifiers. The
Moroccan-born Jose Martinez jetted into The Gambia on Tuesday night to take
charge of the senior scorpions whose recent lackluster performance have
become a concern to many soccer pundits and enthusiasts. Mr. Martinez now
replaces Anthony Hey who was embroiled in a financial wrangle with the
Gambia Football Association over salary and other benefits.
Mr. Martinez is now tasked with the responsibility of guiding the scorpions
in their bid to qualify for the African Nations Cup finals in Ghana come
January of next year.Meanwhile, the scorpions would be travelling to Guinea
Conakry on 3 June 2007, for a return leg after losing 2-0 to the Cyli
Nationale in Banjul.
