My brother has been faithfully following a gluten free diet since being
diagnosed with celiac 6 years ago. Over the last few years he's been
continuing to show symptoms (nausea, diarrhea, blood in his stools, stomach
tenderness) as if he were ingesting gluten. Both his kids also eat gluten
free, and they are careful to prevent any contamination. He has had further
testing and they've determined that he has ulcers in his small intestine and
also his esophagus. Testing (including swallowing a mini camera) has
eliminated Crohn's and other similar diseases. The only explanation doctors
are able to come up with is that celiac is still causing problems for him,
despite being gluten free.

Does anyone know of any similar cases where being gluten free isn't enough
to stop the damage celiac causes?
