Dear Gambians:
It has been brought to my attention that Mr.
Kabirr Njie et, al. are linking me to Mr. Lamin Tunkara, precisely
because my last name is Sankareh(also spelled Sankara in Francophone
countries) .While Mr. Lamin Conteh has treid to explain that we are two
different persons, the accusation remains unabated. Therefore, in accord
with
civilized behaviour, I requested to be registered on the L to help
bring sanity to the orchestrations.
My Njie, you and your colleagues are invited to Raleigh, NC
to come visit me.I am resposible for your round-trip visit to Raleigh,
if upon arrival, I am not able to show you Lamin Tunkara.
During my student days at N. C. State University, I enlisted
on the L. However, It came to a stage that the postings were so
personal that I told Dr. Saine to deregister me.Since then, I have not
personally posted any piece. Although, I have seen most of my work
forwarded
by Joe and I have no qualms with that.
Over the years I have read Gambians writing profane
literature about other people's parents. I cannot personally be a party
to
that, and I am urging whoever is behind this malicious link between me
and
Tunkara to please deal with Tunkara and leave me alone.
If under Yahya Jammeh's kakistocratic AFPRC I did not use
a pen name, why on earth would I use a pen name in the US with its
latitude of freedom? Mr. Njie, for your information, I was a Civil
Servant-
a teacher of English at Saints while at the same time wrting for the
acerbic Point Newspaper and simultaneously reporting for both the BBC &
Radio Deutche Welle. Never have I ever used a pen name nor will I ever
use one. I used to tell my colleagues at The Point albeit with a great
sense of humour, that there may be many Ebrima Sankarehs, but I am the
ONLY Ebrima G. Sankareh. Note the G!! Besides, if any one has a sense
of
history, Sankareh is so sweet a name to be mortgaged for another. It
will constitute a betrayal of family history that dates back to the
early
empires of the Western Sudan.Sankareh is not a borrowed name, it has a
place in the gallery of African history. Now henceforth, if you ever
come across a piece written by Ebrima Sankareh it is not mine, because
all
my work has that distinct trade mark G!!
I hope this will be the last nail of the
Sankareh/Tunkara/Sankara story.
Your fellow Gambian,
Ebrima G. Sankareh.
Raleigh, NC.
