Here is my original post:
I have been gf for over 3 years and for about the last 1-2 years I have had an increasing
problem with fatigue. I would come home from work exhausted (not a physically demanding
job), go to bed exhausted and wake up even more exhaused. I had tried exercise,
caffeine, and different supplements to boost my energy level. Some helped but it
never really made enough of a difference or was consistant. Then a week ago I started
a diet (the old fashion kind of diet) to loose about 20 pounds. I went to www.sparkpeople.com
that someone had recommended a while back. My first day was Saturday a week ago.
You answer a very short questionaire and it spits out how many calories you need
to eat and how much each of carbs, fats, and protein. I entered my first day a food
which I had considered to be dieting and wow! It turns out that I was eating almost
twice the amount of fat and I didnt even come close the the minimum level of carbs.
So Sunday I really made an effort to add nonfat carb foods (mainly fruit and juices)
and cut more fat for the day. Then Monday morning I woke up and sprang out of bed.
I wasnt exhausted! I had not lost any weight by then so I know it wasnt the weight
loss. I believe it was that I wasnt eating enough carbs!! With the gf diet I think
it might be eating more protein and fat. My weakness is cheese and that has been
mostly eliminated so that I can get down to the correct amount of fats. I eat enough
meat and fish so protein is no problem. I hope sharing this will help someone out
there who has been gf and cant find a reason for the fatigue. Good luck!

I got many responses. Most telling me they were going to try this. But there were a few comments that might help others too:
One person had the opposite problem and was on a low carb diet due to fatigue with carbs.
Many suggested that my problem was that I was dairy intolerant when I said I felt better when I eliminated cheese. Well I didn't entirely eliminate cheese. I cut WAY down and what I did use was low fat cheese. I now use light cream cheese as a substitue for butter on many things. I also drink lots of milk (but now it's the low fat kind) so I know its not the dairy.
One suggested I have my adrenals checked for cortical levels.
One person suggested to follow Dr Fuhrman's plan, www.drfuhrman.com , from his book "Eat to
Live"
One person suggested I get my thyroid checked. Done! No problem there.
One suggested to check my B vitamin levels. I take a B50 twice a day.
One suggested I get my mineral levels checked.
One suggested L-Glutamine.
After two weeks of experimenting and a few moments of cheating (but still gf!) I think that it is not just some added carbs but it is also the low fat part that gives me more energy. My husband made dinner one night. A three egg omlet with regular cheddar cheese, kilbosa, and onions. Yum! I should have only eaten half but ate the whole thing. High fat and nearly no carbs, The next day I had a major headache and was wiped out!
Thanks for all the comments. Especially the one "ataboy" for loosing 20 pounds! Unfortunately I meant I WANT to loose 20 pounds. Its really not so easy. I have lost 5 pounds and it has been a little over 2 weeks, but I have kind of plateaued for the past few days. I think it was that omlet! Ha Ha!
