Today March 8th, is a major day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women and I am sending my warmest greetings to all mothers, sisters, aunts, grandmothers and daughters on this day of International Solidarity with women.
Dr. Kwame Nkrumah stated "the level of development of any country can be measured by the political maturity of its women" and we as Gambians and friends of The Gambia should not forget the efforts of sisters like the late Satang Jobarteh and many other women who have been and are still trying to uplift the status of fellow women in the country.
I hereby share a video I recorded during the Gambian Cultural Week in Oslo on July 31, 2001 where Sister Amie Bojang-Sissoho of GAMCOTRAP (Gambia Committee on Traditional Practices) spoke about FGM and the strategies for the eradication of the practice. The second part of the video is a presentation at the same seminar by Dr. Abdoulie Saine.
Both videos can be seen in the Culture Forum at:

Momodou Camara
