NADD's status quo
Ofcourse NADD was registered as a party because of the mere naïvity of the executive that trusted the officials of the Independent Electoral Commission.
The members of the various political parties (UDP, PDOIS, NRP, PPP, NDAM) who compose the membership of the executive committee agreed to remain as the members of NADD after the hurdles of he courts that refuted them the registration of an alliance of different political parties to contest under one umbrella and the rest had to maintain their membership in their original parties.
It is true that the only parliamentary parties are the governing APRC and the opposition NADD. The rest (UDP, PDOIS, NRP, PPP, NDAM) are still existing but dormant.
We should not forget the PDP of Dr Bojang (though not functioning officially at this particular juncture and had already express it's willingness to support the APRC) and the GPDP of Mr Gomes (which is still alliance free and preparing to contest the forthcoming elections, then you have the Independent elected people like Pa Sallah Jeng (the Mayor of Banjul).
One of the strategic aims of NADD was to review the constitution and conduct a referandum that would approve or reject the recommendations that they and the population would put forward including the revitalisation of the original political parties (UDP, PDOIS, NRP, PPP, NDAM) in their independent capacities in order to rejuvenate a multi-party political system.
The proplem we are facing is that some people in the Alliance are not analising far enough to be reminded that the standard-bearer if anything is just leading a transitional government and the dicision making is going to be consultative without any super-prestigious extravaganza or dictatorial powrs.
I hope the Darboe representing the UDP and all the other executive members of NADD take a deep breath and bow to the will of the general Gambian populace that is yearning for freedom lead by a conscious group of honest and dedicated patriots.
One thing is certain for the majority of Gambians, that is they want to live better lives and make poverty and the Jammeh dictatorship a sad chapter of our history.
I would like to appeal to the NADD executive and that of all the parties to become more regular in furnishing updates on their activities and decissions so as to minimise wild speculations, un-warranted attacks on leading personalities / organisations and mis-interpretations.
The executive must try to resolve this daunting question of standard-bearer so that all the current and would be supporters and sympathisers and engage themselves in the real work of getting rid of the Jammeh and co. murderers.
Their pressing questions to handle in a very short time. Civic educationneeds to be intensified not through this wranggling. The different local community campaign groups are to be well structured to withstand the unfair nature of APRC politiking of bribery, intimidation, extortion etc.. through an enligthened electorate. This needs a grand mobilisation of all human and material resources.
We have to adress the human rights issues during the AU summit in june so as to expose our plight to the whole of Africa and the world in a manner that Jammeh would never recover from even if he manages to jail the members of the NADD executive.
We need sue Jammeh for death threats on the Gambian population. This is an offence in any country in he would and we have ample evidence to prosecute him in any court. Even if we don't win the case, we have to start the process now instead of waiting untill he is out of office.
I urge all Gambians to continue the constructive debate that has been a source of political education on democracy for all. We must show the stooges that are suproting the APRC that a really democratic party is not to be dictated to in the manner that the despot Jammeh is doing to them. That we are not a bunch cows that are whiped to folla certain path by some phony shepard. We shall ague and consult each other in order to reach a consensus regarding the people we choose to manage our affairs through our supervision and icroscopic scrutiny. The people MUST collectively be the the maters of the future leaders of the Gambia including it's president or Prime Minister in a democratic and UNITED country.
Gambia must become one of the beacons of democracy and the respect for human rights and dignity after we have thrown out the cowardish dictator Jameh, his hostages and cohorts.
Let us compromise to build a paradise inthe Gambia. One Gambia, One People.
