Hello Kate,
HP has instructions, including a video guide, for this procedure on their
Web site. You'll need the Macromedia Flash Player to view the video. If you
don't have it, there's a download link on the site.
As for a drive recommendation, I'm partial to the NEC brand. I presently use
four (in three computers), have had others, and have not experienced
problems with any. Newegg has a week-end special on a notebook drive for
$69.99 including shipping. I have purchased items from Newegg many times
with complete satisfaction. I'm not affiliated with them in any way. Note
that this is an OEM drive and doesn't come with software. If you need
software, I recommend Nero which you can get from Surplus Computers for
$4.99 including shipping.
Newegg also has blank DVD discs at a good price. The link is for the RiDATA
brand. I have used 300+ of these with one coaster (bad burn) and I'm certain
that was my fault.
