This has been an interest of mine - particulary that Hashi's is an
autoimmune disease and that autoimmune diseases primarily affect women. I
haven't been collecting data, however, I just read something written by
Langer ("Solved - The Riddle of Illness") at:
:
http://www.health-science.com/index.htm?page=/thyroid.html

He suggests Hashi's affects 2% of the population - 95% women.

There are other reports I've read that identify it primarily affects women,
but they don't give stats. I see a lot of reference that it primarily
affects younger and older women. I just recently read something that
there's an epidemic of Hashi's in elderly women (i.e.: over 65 years).

At: http://www.aarda.org/women.html, they suggest Hashi's has a 50:1
Female:Male ratio.

When I went to medical practitioners to get advice on Hashi's, I was
constantly told there was nothing that could be done about autoimmune
diseases. The message was that I just had to live with it and when it got
worse (i.e.: there's no use in fighting this...) they would
operate/medicate. Fortunately, I have found alternative care that has a
more pro-active and positive attitude towards women's health

Kim
(with Hashi's).
