Prednisone has been offered to me from physicians as a means of controlling
my autoimmune thyroid problems (hives, itchiness, rashes, allergies etc...).
I'm not taking it as I'm trying the natural route first (naturopath).

Is not the intent of prednisone to shut down the antibodies that is causing
the autoimmune dysfunction (thus suppress the immune system)? And doesn't
that just make you more vulnerable to other illnesses?. I just can't wrap my
head around it....rather than just shut everything off, I want to know why
this is happening - what's causing these antibodies to act so crazy?.

The word prednisone also caught my eye as I'm just reading Langer's book
"Solved: Riddle of Illness" (which has been very informative - why don't
doctors read these books???!). Langer suggests prednisone can worsen thyroid
function in those people with hypothyroidism. Has this come up for anyone?

Kim
