Hi Everyone,

I would like to respond to the statements made about "Celiac Disease, A
Guide through the Medicine Cabinet" available on celiacmeds.com by
describing how the book is created.

My process for development of the book is as follows:

1. Once a year I mail a survey to all the drug manufacturers in the
United States with a postage-paid return envelope. I will only include
information received in writing from the manufacturer with the name of the
person responsible for completing the survey. I insist on this because I
believe accountability is extremely important when talking about something
as serious as your health.

2. My name, business address, and phone number appear on the survey,
book and website. Many of the other free sites that disseminate information
of this type do so anonymously.

Because I include this information, a representative from one of the drug
companies once telephone me wanting to know why I listed their product as
not gluten free. I was able to pull out the original survey and tell them
who completed the survey as well as explain to them that "no" does not mean
that the product contains gluten. It means that I wasn't told that the
product definitely is free of gluten. The company representative thanked me
and hung up satisfied.

Because you are entrusting your health to someone (by way of a book or a web
site) who is telling you what is safe or not safe to take, you need to be
as sure as possible that the information is accurate. The only assurance
you can have is accountability. Anonymity has no place here.

I would like to respond to the notion that the information is outdated. Any
information of this sort is outdated the minute it is disseminated. This is
because the manufacturers can change suppliers, and thus the gluten-free
status, at any time. Always check to make certain that the drug has not
been changed in any way. I include the Directory of Manufacturers in the
back of the book. Everything you need is at hand.

Don't rely on unknown sources! Too much is at risk. As CC Thompson said,
your "lives depend on it".

Keep calling the manufacturers. If they hear from enough of us, often
enough, maybe they will finally make this vital information more readily
available to us.

Please feel free to contact me directly with any other questions or
concerns.

Thank you and Good Health,
Marcia Milazzo
