Thank you to all of you who kindly and quickly answered my concern. I
received many comments that the prep is worse than the actual colonoscopy,
and to expect to spend 4 to 6 hours in the bathroom or to go to the bathroom
8 to 10 times. Several had suggestions for alternative regimens.

There were a couple of people including an RN who expressed concern over the
amount of laxatives advised for a kid who already had diarrhea and blood.
and encouraged me to talk to the doctor about the particulars of her
situation. This was just the sheet the doctor's nurse gave me, so I plan to
discuss it with the doctor on the phone when we talk about the culture
results. He had indicated she might not need the scope right away if the
antibiotic was helping, and it is so perhaps it can be put off for a few
days or a week until things calm down some in her intestines.

Replies:

>I was given GoLytely( a Colon Cleansing Solution) starting 5pm the night
before. The day before that I ate Jell-9 and drank water and Endure.

>Mag citrate is like very fizzy lemon soda. Anything may irritate her
current condition and be uncomfortable for her.

>I was given two doses of Fleet's phososoda. It really cleaned me out but
it didn't hurt. Not sure if it would work for your daughter. The important
thing is to drink tons of water. All the laxatives can really dehydrate you
and that leaves you feeling quite dreadful.

Two people suggested dulcolax had gluten. I called the 800 number on the
product website and got a nice young lady reading me things off of a product
box which was not reassuring. She went to ask a pharmacist and told me
there is no wheat/rye/barley gluten in the laxative but there is corn
protein. However I would have felt better talking to a doctor or
pharmacist. When I called about Xifaxan, I got either a pharmacist or MD,
not a clerk, which was more reassuring.

One person got Miralax powder from their gastro and you mix it with a gallon
of liquid. They used Arizona iced tea, which had some pain but no bleeding.

A couple of people suggested we try the gf diet, but she has been gf for 4
years and on SCD for over a year with great benefit, that is why it seems to
be an infection of some kind, because it came on the heals of taking a long
course of Augmentin, which is souped up amoxicillin, to treat bronchitis.

>I quit the prep when my stool ran clear. That is what they want. Call the
doctor and tell him/her about the pain and bleeding.
