Thanks for your insight on the 81 mystery questions. If you were old
enough in 1994, you knew that Yaya was in a previllage position to
topple a government. He commanded the MP unit of the military and was
essentially a right hand man of the president. In this situation, no
critical question can be raised that would not have answers.
On the otherhand. Kukoi was not in the service and i keep wondering
where this person came from and what kind of weight does he have in
society prior to 81. He was not even in government or the underground
MOJA-G movement. This bothers me a lot as i was too young to answer
these questions in 81. I know someone out there might have known
kukoi in person or someone close to kukoi. And so i floated this
question around to get these critical answers. I am just concern
about answering historical questions. Because, 81 is part of our
history and so we have to answer these questions for our childern.
Coups in others parts of Africa are easily understood because there
is plenty literature on them. In Gambia, we are still backward in
this area in that We have no clear name for the 81 coup. Some call it
taxi drivers' rebellion, others military coup (but no military at the
time) to others, it was the day to settle scores. And you wonder,
which one is the right answer.
