I'm sorry but as a disabled person, I disagree vehemently with your
statement. How do you really and truly know that a person with
mental retardation has no self-awareness at all? How do you know
that such a course of action will truly do no harm to the person?
And I am so saddened at how closely this "ethical" decision lies with
the eugenics movement and the Nazis' willingness to tamper with
people in the name of "physical perfection." I don't mean you
personally , Kristina, but this whole mess just is a sad commentary
on how society would not like to be bothered with taking care of
people with disabilities.
Juat *my* tuppence.

I think it is a great idea for kids that have no mental notion of being
different. I am sure that if your child would know they difference
they wold not
do it.
But having a 69 lbs child that will always need diapers and not
walk. I
would do it if she were not mental age 7. IF she were mental age 2
or 3 I think
it would be great. As it is when she gets to be 100 or 150 lbs how
will I
be able to change her diaper 8 times a day and not hurt my back. I
am the
only care giver. I do not want her in a home where she will be left
in a wet
diaper and someone could rape her...(as we have all heard in the news).
Just my 2 cents.
