well, tell him to use an antenna analyzer and just hook the coax up outside
the vehicle until the antenna is matched and then reroute the coax.
Sounds like your buddy may not be an actual radio tech.
If he isn't a qualified tech, I wonder what kind of reliability, if any was
there in the first place, these installations will have....especially since
the intention is to use them for emergency backup.
sounds half baked to me.
