Hi Tom,
    I have tried the quarter wave counterpoise with some success. However I 
would have had more success if I had used 12 or 14 gage wire, instead of 22.

    Generally you connect one end to the grounding post on your radio. then 
run the wire along the mop board of your house. be sure that the other end 
is where pets and people can't accidentally touch it. Because It can 
generate quite a shock when you are transmitting.
