laptops these days will withstand pretty much as much useage as a
desktop...in fact, they will withstand more since they are designed for
portibility and constant hands on usage.
you would think the opposite because of the size and sometimes delicate
nature of the machines...but if you get a good quality laptop, it wil
outlast a desktop.
If you get a docking station, you can eliminate power chord, USB hook ups
and taking out modular disk/CD drives.
Even without the docking station, the laptop will be every bit as flexible
and powerful as a desktop, but in a much smaller and more convenient
package.
I would get a docking station to permanently keep scanner, printer, possibly
monitor and what ever other various periferals hooked up so i wouldn't have
to connect and disconnect them each time i wanted to take my laptop
somewhere or came back to the home office with it.
It's more of a personal preference then anything being better then the next
thing.
If you want ultimate flexibility and portibility and ease of use, a docking
station and laptop are the way to go.
If you want a stationary, yet upgradable and stable machine then go for a
desktop...
That's not to say laptops aren't stable or upgradable though. They are just
a little more expensive to upgrade.
