Gail,

I don't think it was necessarily that you didn't connect a power supply.  I 
think the separate battery which protects the EProm was completely 
discharged.  I have had batteries replaced in my BNS once and my Braille 
Lite twice.  I don't think they connected it to a power supply and 
everything worked fine.
