Former Nawec MD re-arrested

Abdoulie Jobe, the Former Managing Director of the National Water and
Electricity Company (NAWEC) who is currently standing trial on charges of
economic crimes was reported to have been arrested again on Tuesday night.
Mr Jobe’s arrest was disclosed by his counsel Sherriff Tambedou in court
when his his economic crime case was called before Magistrate Mboto of the
Banjul magistrate court.
The police prosecutor 1st class 335 Nying who stood in for his colleague,
Mr Kinteh, when asked by Magistrate Mboto if he had any knowledge of the
arrest of Mr Jobe responded in the negative.
Magistrate Mboto then said that since the prosecutor representing the state
in the case had no knowledge of the arrest of Mr Jobe, she would adjourn
the case to enable the state prosecutor to explain the whereabouts of Mr
Jobe.
The case was then adjourned to Wednesday, 8 November 2006.
It could be recalled that Mr Jobe is standing trial along with Tijan
Bahoum, the company’s former Power Supply Director, who was present in
court yesterday.
