LAGOS, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo left Abuja on Sunday for a two-day official visit to the Gambia, the official News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported. Details of the visit were not made known but it was learnt that it was based on special invitation by Gambian President Yaya Jameh, the NAN quoted a program on the president's weekly activities as saying.
Bilateral issues of common interest between the two countries, as well as peace in the west African subregion were expected to dominate discussions between the two leaders during the visit.
The president's visit followed a Commonwealth mandate to him to mediate between the opposition and the ruling party in the Gambia. Enditem
