I read with interest your comments about the inadvisability of going on a GF
diet without accurate diagnosis and I understand your position. But, in all
fairness to some folks who haven't been able to get a diagnosis I also
understand where she is coming from and the medical profession needs to
understand her frustration.
I am 56 years old and have probably had CD all my life. I was undiagnosed
until about two and a half years ago. I self-diagnosed through reading many
many medical references. Then went to three different gastroenterologists
who didn't know what I was talking about. The third Dr. did three biopsies
and finally told me I had a "slight" case of CD. Even now, he won't spend tme
with me discussing the illness. But the diet definitely helps.
So what is a patient to do? This kind of treatment by the medical
profession. (Which many of us have undergfone). Is what's leading people to
self-diagnosis, with the resultant uncertainties.(sp).
I look forward to discussing this more with you and your colleges in
Baltimore in July. Thanking you in advance...Taylor Cushmore
