Secondly, I believe that Hon. Sallah and the NADD leaders were acutely aware
that Mr. Jammeh needs to be CHALLENGED at all levels; that despite his
policy of intimidation, there are Gambians who will stand up to him;
Gambians who will not be cowed by his threats; Gambians who will speak truth
to power.
Brother Sidibeh,
The difference between Halifa Sallah and co challenging Jammeh and standing
up to him despite the fact that it may not have gotten anywhere is that these
ladies and gentlemen have never sold their integrity to Yaya Jammeh and have
indeed been steadfast in their opposition to him throughout. Therefore, they
can never be on the same footing as Dibba and others who are well aware of
what the APRC engages in vis a vis our people and yet, they were right there
and did not speak out during a long spate of crimes against the people. Now
this is not to say that other Gambians who have supported this regime in the
past cannot change their mind and oppose them now, but in the case of Mr Dibba,
as an elder politician in our country, he was one of those who remained
silent while the APRC committed these heinous crimes against the people and he
never uttered a word during all of that time. You can say, he was infact, very
much a collaborator.
That coupled with the time he has chosen to speak out after representing the
beast for so long that gives the impression that he is trying to save face
after coming to the realization that the ship is sinking, and with his arrest,
he may very well also have felt that he was next on Jammeh's chopping block.
I am simply making an observation that definitely needs mention. His
speaking truth to power should have come a long time ago because the reasons for any
decent Gambian to do so have been there all long. They were there before he
joined them, they were very much there while he served them all these years,
as they are there today. Perhaps Mr Dibba is a late bloomer then.
Given all that, one cannot help but think that his last minute change of
heart is intended to save face and we simply said so.
