Nothing new under the sun. Back in 1962 I went with an Arizona game warden
on a count of Desert Bighorn Sheep in the enormous Cabeza Prieta Game Refuge
that takes up the southwest corner of the state. We had to schedule the
week long jaunt between US Air Force gunnery practice schedules because the
game refuge for the rare sheep doubled as an Air Force gunnery range.
Along with watching for sheep, we also were supposed to watch for Mexican
scrap metal poachers who made a living dodging lead from the air and picking
up brass shell casings to take back across the Border out there in the real
desert.
