Folks, this is very progress, please read.
RESOLUTION OF THE MILITANTS OF THE NATIOAL ALLIANCE FOR DEMOCRACY AND
DEVELOPMENT (NADD) AGREED ON AT A MEETING HELD AT THE NADD HEADQUARTERS ON
FRIDAY 20TH JANUARY 2006
We, the undersigned militants of the National Alliance for Democracy and
Development (NADD) after having passionate, frank and genuine exchanges at
an independently initiated militants’ meeting held on Friday 20th January
2006 at the NADD Headquarters in Churchill Town, K.S.M.D have unanimously
resolved to communicate to the NADD Executive Committee before their next
meeting, our genuine concern and extensively discussed and critically
reviewed position on the issue of the selection of a flag bearer of the
Alliance for the forth coming 2006 Presidential Election which is presently
being considered and on the resultant impasse.
We have resolved to reaffirm the unreserved and full trust and confidence
that we repose in you as a body consisting of our leaders who will and can
well and fully represent and serve the best interest of our political
Alliance in particular and The Gambian nation in general.
We have entrusted you as a leadership body and as individual leaders with
the responsibility and task of serving the collective interest of the
political Alliance above any personal and/or partisan interests or other
parochial considerations;
We are fully aware of the fact that the existence of NADD now represents
hope for not only the members of the Alliance but Gambians and non-nationals
who are desirous and are yearning and working for a Gambia where democratic
empowerment, political liberty, rule of law and economic development and
prosperity become the order of the day;
We are fully conscious of the fact that the principles and programmes that
underpin the existence of NADD, as enshrined in the M.O.U and other
arrangements, if fully understood and sincerely and collectively adhered to
by the membership and leadership alike, can and will usher in an era that
marks an end to the abuse of political office and power, impunity, tyranny,
economic mismanagement of public resources as is being witnessed today in
the Gambia;
We are fully convinced of the fact that NADD can fully and adequately
address the aspirations of the Gambian people to live in a Gambia where
democratic freedom and liberty, the rule of law and economic emancipation
and prosperity are enjoyed and guaranteed to all, only if our leaders and
membership are committed to the Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) that bind
the Alliance to undertake a five year transition period of stewardship, if
given the mandate by the people;
We are confident that the overwhelming majority of the Gambian people are
yearning for change and are ready to vote for any credible political force
to replace the present unpopular and discredited APRC regime;
We are confident of the NADD’s ability to replace the APRC and bring about
the desirable political and economic changes that the Gambia so desperately
and urgently needs for its people to live a life of liberty, dignity and
prosperity in a politically peaceful and stable country;
We are aware of the fact that there are many well meaning, albeit,
disillusioned Gambians who are not members or supporters of NADD but are
either members or supporters of the ruling APRC party or are the undecided
and or would be eligible voters who are just waiting to see a credible
alternative who can win their trust and confidence and whom they can give
their full and unalloyed support to;
We believe that NADD can and will enlist the support of these categories of
people who are desirous of a peaceful and stable Gambia where justice
prevails if we select a credible person to the position of flag bearer who
can win their trust and confidence since our objective of assuming
leadership is to serve all and sundry; irrespective of past and present
political affiliation;
Consequently, having critically and honestly considered all the above as a
result of our hope in and commitment to NADD, we are thus demanding that the
Executive be open minded, consencious, prudent, critical and honest when
considering and eventually selecting a flag bearer for the Alliance in the
forthcoming 2006 Presidential Elections in The Gambia;
That the eventual Flag bearer must be a credible candidate who is agreeable
to all the stakeholders in the Alliance;
That the Flag bearer must be able to win the trust and confidence of the
membership of NADD;
That the Flag bearer should be selected from amongst the members of the
Executive Committee;
That the Flag bearer is not anybody, but someone who can win the support,
trust and confidence of not only the members of NADD but also outside of the
Alliance as well;
That the Flag bearer should be someone who is capable of being a unifier
without any partisan bias, what so ever;
That the Executive Committee should immediately resolve and conclude this
issue of the selection of Flag bearer in unanimity and without any rancor in
the interest of the unity of the NADD party, in particular, and the broader
interest of the Gambian people and nation, in general;
That the issue of resorting to primaries for the selection of a Flag bearer
should be avoided, at all cost, since the Executive is believed to have the
interest and capacity of concluding this issue to the satisfaction and in
the interest of all the membership.
LONG LIVE NADD UNITY!
LONG LIVE NADD!!
LONG LIVE THE GAMBIA!!!
NB:
The above Resolution was presented as a Petition to each of the twelve
members of the NADD Executive by a delegation selected by the NADD Militants
representing all the shades comprising the political Alliance. This
presentation of the text to each at their homes was also followed by a
symbolic presentation through the chairman at their meeting the following
day. This was also accompanied by a list of more than one thousand five
hundred signatories of militants as an attachment and speeches that appealed
for consideration of national interest against personal or partisan interest
and not to betray the hope and trust of the people
