Here is the latest on my nephew's little girl. His wife, Wendy, and Amber
are here in Denver right now so they are getting the very best of care.

Phil.

Subject: Amber's Diagnosis

On Tuesday, May 23rd, Amber went to the Pediatric Neurologist at
Children's hospital. The nurse was surprised that Amber got an appointment
with the doctor because her schedule is so full. She said that it is very
difficult for new patients to get an appointment with the doctor. PTL, the
Lord got us through. Apparently, there are only three Pediatric
Neurologists in Colorado and Amber's appointment was with one of the three.
The doctor said that Amber has Rolandic Epilepsy. She had all of
Amber's MRI, EEG and blood results from Almaty and concluded that she has
Children's Epilepsy. This is good, because it can be treated with
medication, Carbatrol, and the hope is that she will grow out of the
epilepsy in a couple years. If you wish to learn more, you can find it
on-line at www.epilepsy.org and
http://www.epilepsy.org/Visitors/Centre/Brochuresforchapters.cfm.

Prayer:
1. Wisdom about the medication; to put Amber on Carbatrol or not.
2. If we do, pray that the medicine is adjusted correctly and in the time
frame of their return plane tickets.
3. If she takes Carbatrol, pray that we could get the medication in
Kazakstan.

Praise:
1. Amber got to see an exellent pediatric neurologist.

Here is a summary of Wendy's messages:

"They agree with the Norwegian doctor that the cyst is nothing to worry
about. They recommend we do a follow up MRT in a year. The quality of the
MRT in Kazakstan was fine and they can get it via email and can review it
then. They said these kind of cysts are very common and more often than not
stay the same size.
Their initial thoughts were that she's having Simple and/or Complex
Partial seizures. They also think it's Benign Rolandic Epilepsy.
WWW.epilepsy.org and www.epilepsyfoundation.org had info on this and on the
medicine she is recommending called Carbatrol. Nearly all kids with this
will grow out of it. We can get the blood levels check in 3 months and
again in 6 months in Kazakstan."

"The doctor called and said the EEG shows it is indeed Rolandic
Epilepsy...If we start the meds on Thrusday then Amber will have a blood
test on June 7th...If all the levels are fine we are set to go. If we need
to adjust it again there's a slight possibility we'll need a bit more time
( few more days) to check her blood again...She seemed to think 200mgs
would be enough. It's only if we would need to go up to 300mgs that we'd
run into a time crunch with the departure date (our purchased round trip
airline tickets are limited to one month)."
