Thanks to everyone for their kindness and interests in Vitamin D deficiency.
I have pages of notes from everyone. Everyone should be tested because it
seems most celiacs do have a Vit. D deficiency and don’t know it.
Vitamin D3 is derived from soy, fish oil, cod liver oil, or sheep's wool
lanolin. Vitamin D2 is derived from fungus and mold. ****My comment: If you have
a mold or fungus allergy, you can't even think of taking it. I tried it and
I made a lot of mucous in my throat. That is what most of our list members
said from their research on it. So if you have any problems with any of this,
you have to find another source of Vit D, maybe a tanning salon or light
source. First get your dermatologist's approval.
Some people take one 50,000 unit vit D weekly.
Some doctors said to take 800 International units a day.
Our daughter in addition to celiac is soy, corn, dairy, canola intolerant.
She is on the SCD diet, and has had good success with Solgar Vitamin D1000
caps. I think they are derived from fish oil, but they are free of soy
as the glycerin in the cap in Solgar products is derived from palm or
coconut.
One saw an osteo specialist who is having her start 1 or 2 x each month
massive Viamin D2 doses. I called Walgreens and it is made by PLIVA
I called Pliva and verified that it is gluten free, shellfish and iodine
free (my 2 issues). Try calling them if this is the type of thing you need.

Another person takes tablet form twice a day, I. It is GNC Vitamin D 700 IU
it says on the back: vitamin D (as Cholecalciferol) 700 IU, other
ingredients: dicalcium phosphate cellulose. No sugar, no starch, no artificial colors,
no artificial flavors, no preservatives, sodium free, no wheat, no gluten, no
corn, no soy, no dairy, yeast free. I have a fairly sensitive stomach and
this doesn't seem to bother me. Call for information about what it is derived
from.
(I had a 9 out of 80 when I was tested last December), and I,
too, am very sensitive to different supplements and foods. I don't tolerate
fish oil well, and dairy is hard on my system too. I've been taking Country
Life Vit. D (1000 I.U. tablets).***My comment: I called and found out their
Vit D2 is made from fungus and mold. When I take one tablet per day, I get a
tick/twitch in my jaw, so I only take about 4 tablets per week. I seem to do
ok with this smaller amount, but I'm not sure I'm absorbing it. (My Doctor
thinks that
a lot of my muscle issue--like pain, spasms, weakness, and stamina
problems--stem from the vit D deficiency. I notice that when I take the tablets, I
don't really notice much improvement in my muscle issues. However, when I get
significant amount of sun, I seem to feel much better. I wonder whether my body
uses the vitamin D from the sun much more easily than the vit. D from the
tablets.
