Hello all! I apologize for the delay in summarizing-I have been very ill
and got slammed with responses!! Thanks so much to all who responded-I got
the most of any post!!
The question was what vitamin deficiency causes cracks in the sides of your
mouth.
The majority of people stated B-vitamins, but the second choice was Vit. C.
Some other people had some other suggestions, those are listed below.
My cd daughter had awful looking lips, with cracks and big red places around
her lips, which eventually cracked. This can be caused by a zinc
definiency, according to her gasto. He did a blood test, and sure enough,
that's what is was. She went on a high dose of zinc and it eventually
cleared up.
My experience with cracks in the corners of the mouth was a result of
systemic candida yeast.
The Merck Manual home edition ($10 at Borders Books) has symptoms
indexed and also a section on vitamin deficiencies
Cracks at the corners of your lips can be caused by a
vitamin deficiency (sorry I don't remember which vitamin), but they
can also be angular chelitis, which is an autoimmune problem, and is
a known symptom of celiac. I get that with accidental gluten.
Angular cheilitis is most often caused by an infection—usually fungal, but
it also can be viral or bacterial in origin.

Actually that chart shows the corner cracks under a RIBOFLAVIN deficiency.
My favorite book for this info is Earl Mindell's 'Vitamin Bible', printed
by
Warner Books.
Under Mouth sores and cracks which lists this as symptom it mentions
needing
B12, B6. You can get these from the foods: milk, liver, kidney, yeast,
cheese, fish, eggs for B12. For B6 Dried nutritional yeast, liver, organ
meats, legumes, whole-grain cereals, fish.
Recommended Supplements: 50 Mg B-Complex 3 times daily with meals.
I have taken vitamin B complex for years and haven't had the cracked
corners for some time. There's a cheaper brand and it's gluten free. It can
be gotten at WalMart. Nature Made Super B-Complex - they have had a special
on it lately, where we get 50% more free. www.NatureMade.com, it's out of
Mission Hills, California. I think it's under $8.00 with tax for 150
tablets on the special sale.
There is a great book called, "Prescriptions for Nutritional Healing" by
Phyllis and James Balsch. They usually have copies of it for sale at Walden
Books or Barnes and Nobles, and of course, Amazon. Make sure you get the
most recent edition if you buy it. It has the lists you are looking for
plus a whole lot more. I practically healed myself of all my health woes
using this book alone. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Thanks again to all of you!!
