Essaugambia, Jambarr, Kocha Barma (long dead?) as individuals' names aren't ones I am familiar with but these were subscribed to the L.  So, Luntang, as Malanding said, there is nothing full-proof that management can do about subscribers using names that may not be "real".  However, there was a requirement that those with free-mail addresses be sponsored by a current member and that A first name, could be Fafa, and A last name, could be Jamaano, be provided for the email address being subscribed.  But, the debate has not been about pseudonyms and when it does, who can really tell who is using a real or false name?

Although this problem of Real or Alias/Psuedo (nome de guerre or whatever you call it) has been revisited many times since the birth of Gambia-l, I cannot recall when management legislated against one or the other.  After many years on the list  my take is that the choice to go by aliases (nome de guerre) should be left to subscribers. After all how do you know Malanding Jaiteh and Luntang are REAL  but Fatoumata  and Essau Gambia aren't? The requirement that folks with free mail accounts get someone REAL to introduce/recommend then has been our little way cutting down abuse.  Although we keep track of these we are aware that its not at all  fool proof  especially when dealing with adults who find it necessary to hide behind "nom de guerre" to be effective and potent cyber-wariors!
