Hi Guys!
I have heard that thunderheads tower as much as thirty thousand feet,
and that there is rotation within the clouds. I have also heard it
said that after a storm initially passes, stray lightning can exist
for up to a half an hour, so it is best not to go out right when the
thunderstorm ends.
One morning, I stood outside our apartment building to watch a storm
blow up. Now let me say that what followed was only miraculous. We
have no rose bushes anywhere around, but suddenly, the air was
permeated with the smell of roses, and for some reason, I knew beyond
a shadow of a doubt that I should run. I have never run so fast. I
ran to my apartment on the third floor, and just as I opened the
door, I heard the biggest explosion I had ever heard, and every
battery-operated toy and talking clock started chattering. One of the
clocks distinctly said "Thirteen O'clock". It turned out that our
building had taken a direct hit. This is the list of casualties:
>The antenna on the roof,
>The building intercom system,
>Eight cordless phones,
>Four VCR's,
>Two entire computer systems and
>Thirteen talking clocks.
>
>What I wonder about was the smell of the roses. It must have been a
>Guardian Angel warning me.
>
>Now guys, am I afraid of lightning? You bet your boots I am.
>Sometimes Reeva and I listen to the corona on the radio, but most of
>the time we don't.
>
>Last Wednesday, THE LORD gave us quite a display of Heavenly
>pyratechnics and we had a cloud-to-ground strike very close to us.
>
>Now let me say that now I live on the back of the building where all
>the transformers hang out. Scscscscscscscscscscscscscscary. If we
>get a direct hit back here, it'll take out more than two computer
>systems, and between both Reeva and me, we have at least fifteen
>talking clocks, and I have a Pooh-Bear the size of a two-year-old
>that talks, plus a squeaking dolphin, a squeaking seal, and all
>manner of battery-operated stuffies. I would hate to hear what
>lightning would cause all these things to do!
>
>Yes guys, I am afraid of lightning, but go figure. I love storms. I
>have more than one screw loose. Phil, thank you for your brief
>meteorological discussion. Meteorology, earthquakes, volcanic
>eruptions, tornadic activity and blizzards and medicine are my
>passions. I am also interested in languages, literature and particle
>physics, along with biblical eschatology.
>
>Reeva is asking "can I quit typing now?" The answer is "YES!"
>
>
>Later Gators,
>MariJean
