It wasn't your fault because you tried to refuse the host.  That priest
should never have given you communion before your conversion if you were
converted because you may not believe in transubstantiation.  That is
crucial to the partaking of the precious body and blood.  Also, protestants
feel quite differently concerning the sacrament of pennants as well.
Without proper catechizing to clarify things you wouldn't have been properly
prepared.
